Japan

Hello, Chicago!

Aafter a 10-hour flight from Narita International Airport in Japan, we finally landed at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. From Japan, we took the ANA Flight. I love the service. The Japanese Air Crew was very friendly and very accommodating. You know we asked a lot for drinks and they just kept smiling.

I loved the food, too. I was amused when they gave us a menu list because there was a calorie count in every menu choice. Of course, I chose something Japanese. The irony is that they served ice cream for dessert. And it’s not just any ordinary ice cream. It was Haagen-Dazs on Air Nippon Airway!

And while hubby reveled on tomato juice, I enjoyed red wine. It didn’t make me sleep though. I watched 4 movies instead!

At Chicago O’Hare airport, although it wasn’t our final destination, we had to go through Immigration counter, claim our baggage and passed through Customs for security check.

We waited for another couple of hours at the terminal and took the domestic flight using United Air. I guess Unired Airline is a budget airline. They didn’t serve food. They served some drinks though. Coke for me and another tomato juice for the hubs.

It was cold in Chicago, at about 8 deg celcius.

I couldn’t wait to finally arrive in Atlanta and see my friends.

We are staying at a friend’s in Jackson, that’s in Southern part of Georgia.

So many on our list of things to do… I can’t wait.

Eating in Japan

April 24, 2011

April24-14

We landed at 6am at Narita International Airport. Our next flight will be at 10am. So we have 4 hours to kill. And we have to eat breakfast.

We found a restaurant near our boarding gate called Tokyo Food Bar.

I love Ramen soup and thank God it’s the cheapest, at 750 Yen. That’s about 10US$. Peter ordered coffee for me, hot chocolate for him and a sandwich at Beck’s coffee for 1,300 Yen.  So our breakfast cost us a whooping 25US$!

April24-13

After we ordered at the counter, the lady gave us a vibrator. Not the one you’re thinking right now. It’s a rectangular shaped bar that vibrates when your food is ready.

Quite interesting huh?

And while waiting for Peter when he was ordering our drinks and his sandwich, I took the liberty of taking a photo of myself at the mirror in front of where I was sitting. I guess one Japanese guy saw me doing that coz I was actually shooting lots, looking at my camera, then shoot again… You know shoot in different angles to know which I can use to post later… That Japanese guy came and asked whether he could take photo of me. LOL.

He was being kind really. But I was embarrassed. LOL.

Anyways, I am still laughing at the idea of a vibrator to let you know you can now take your food from the counter.  It is still early in the morning… so yes, Ohayou, Tokyo!

Ohayou, Japan

April 24, 2011

That’s good morning in Japanese language. Please don’t ask me which dialect, I wouldn’t know. Hehehe.

And yes, Ohayou, Japan.

April24-12-2

Praise God we landed safely at Narita International Airport. Japan is one hour advance compared to Malaysia and the Philippines. We reached Japan at 6 something in the morning. I still feel groggy as I write this.

Anyways, when we landed at the airport, we were directed towards Terminal 80 to take a bus that would take us to Terminal 1. We’re supposed to board at Gate 53.

Went to ANA Connecting Counter and got a boarding passes for both Chicago and Atlanta. We were advised to collect our luggage at Chicago airport for customs check.

By the way, the lady in KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) didn’t know we were married. She thought we were just traveling together. So she checked in our luggage individually. There’s a long story behind the decision – but it all boils down to my Filipino passport.

So when we checked in at the boarding gate in KLIA, they had to check my visa again. That’s when they knew I was a traveling with my husband.

You see, when Peter and I go out minus the kids, people always mistake us as just lovers (boyfriend-girlfriend). It happened many times. So there’s no wonder the lady at the check in counter had that impression.

Do you wanna hear some bloopers?

While on the plane, my husband wanted to sleep in straight away, so he thought he would order a:

Peter: Do you have Brandy?

Stewardess: What is that?

Peter: Brandy

Stewardess: Oh, liquor. No sir, we only have whisky.

Peter: okay… give me a glass, pls.

Stewardess: How do you like your whisky sir?

Peter: Hmm.. neat?

Stewardess: Sorry?

Peter: hmm what do you have?

Stewardess: do you want it with ice cubes?

Peter: Oh okay, yes please.

I was amused while listening to my husband. He doesn’t drink, you see. He just wanted to sleep right in.

Another blooper from ANA connecting counter:

Receptionist: Okay… so here are your boarding pass for both Chicago and Atlanta, boarding is at Gate 3. Have a safe flight, sir.

Peter: Thanks! You too!

LOL.

Anyways, we have 2 more hours to stay at Narita Airport. I am hungry. Of course we need to eat. The cheapest food I could find is at Tokyo Bar. Coffee price: 300 Yen. sandwich: 500 Yen. That’s 40 in Malaysian Ringgit and 1 US is equivalent to 3.00 RM.

Gosh. But I need to eat. LOL.

Ohayou, Japan!
