But of course, since we don’t go to Sizzler everyday, we tried other dishes as well. If you order any of the dishes, food in the salad bar is free – all you can eat.
Thailand
It was my parents’ first time to ride on a train that had beds. I bought the lower berths for them.
It took us 14 hours by train to reach Hatyai. We spent almost an hour in Pedang Besar. I expected people to be wearing masks but I was disappointed. Nevertheless, we were very careful. I made sure we had hand sanitizer with us so we could clean our hands everytime. I took them to Bird’s Nest for breakfast. They had chicken porridge. I was planning on ordering Dim Sum for them but I think they wanted to be careful with the food they ate.
We visited Lee Garden’s mall regularly while there to do some shopping for my kids and to have our meals there.
I made sure I took them to sizzler’s as well. Sizzler’s in Hatyai is one of my favorite restaurants. I had barbecue steak. And the salad was eat-all-you-can.
It never stopped to amaze me how my parents, at such old age, were still very sweet. My father would never cross the streets without holding my mama’s hand. And he follows her everywhere, fearing she would get lost. I’m so proud that my papa is forever a gentleman.
Then I took them to the place I stayed at last time. And I showed them where I did my Thai language study in Hatyai. I studied Thai Language for my first 4 months in Thailand. After our language study, we moved to Phuket to start on our work.
One of my favorite things to do while in Hatyai (or in Thailand in general) is to go for beauty treatments. I did a whole body spa in Hatyai 2 years ago. It was an awesome experience. So when I took my parents to Hatyai I thought of letting my Mama experience it. We both went for a hair wash. It was so cheap you wouldn’t believe how good the service was. I always give Thailand a 5-star award for their services. For both me and my mother, they only asked 180 Baht. I gave them 200 anyway coz I truly loved the service.
To go to Hatyai without shopping is not a Hatyai trip at all. My parents learned how to bargain but using sign language. My father was so good in it. He was better in bargaining than I was.
We stayed in a budget hotel called Racha Hotel. Racha Hotel is situated behind Siam Center Hotel. I was planning on staying at Regency Hotel but they’re more expensive without wi-fi and the rate is inclusive of breakfast but only for 2 pax. The third one needed to pay more. So I decided to just go for a cheaper one and avail of internt service in the mall. Racha Hotel is an old hotel without water heater (but with aircon). So if you’re not used to cold showers, don’t even think of Racha Hotel. But you can have hot showers for 100 Baht more at Yong Dee Hotel.
We stayed for 3 nights in Hatyai. My parents loved the new experience they had there. We specifically had fun with the language as my papa would equate whatever they’re saying in our language.Tomorrow we’re going to Hatyai. I haven’t decided where to stay there yet. But there are options I could think of:
1. stay at friends’ house – but with H1N1 in Hatyai nowadays, I’m not sure whether our friends will be comfortable hosting guests from other countries. So I’m thinking of saving them from the inconvenience
2. book a hotel from here – but sometimes, online bookings can be more expensive.
3. walk in in hotels – we are most likely to be doing this. There are a lot of budget hotels in Hatyai that we could just walk in.
Budget hotels in Hatyai would include:
1. Indra Hotel
2. New Season’s Hotel
3. JB Hotel
4. Siam Hotel
5. Asian Hotel
6. Regency Hotel
7. Chuchada Place
I found these hotels online when I was searching for hotels in Hatyai though of course I knew about them since I have lived in Hatyai.
I have stayed in Siam Hotel and Regency Hotel. Regency Hotel is only 800 Baht/night/room and inclusive of breakfast for 2. It’s quite a good deal. And it’s just a few steps from Central Mall and But I will probably look for cheaper hotel when we get there. It would be good to stay in a hotel which is just at the heart of the city.
